A little help from my buddy33 viewsMcKinley likes to "help" whatever we do. In this photo he's serving as a living shop-vac of sorts. Until I start cutting or drilling he'll stick it out with me in the garage.

Another view of the new sink, with the new towel rack12 viewsNote the cabin/woodsy theme. Very nice.

The original images of the outdoor patio furniture20 viewsFrom the plans book. I'm not sure where she resides, but I couldn't find 1x4 and 1x6 PT lumber. But cedar seemed to be a viable substitute, and it looks good if you ask me.

The new bathroom/kitchen sink12 viewsWe've been looking at a deep sink setup from Lowe's that costs around $250. That seems steep, but is fairly cheap given the depth of the sink and the sprayer attachment (not shown in pic). We picked up the shown sink and cabinet for a whopping $50 from the Thrift Store in LaPine. It pays to shop!!

Top of bookcase19 viewsRouted trim, hides some gaps and adds beauty to the project. The plan is to have this done and in the new Pole Barn room in time for Leighanne and Levi to enjoy using it. Should be done well before then.

Pine bookcase--just needs staining19 viewsAnd the final product. All it lacks is a layer of stain + polyurethane. It looks better than I thought it would mid-project.May 17, 2007

Almost done17 viewsJust need to add the bottom trim (note the routed edge on the two short pieces still to add), add the back, sand and then finish. It's looking pretty good. The lesson learned is adding trim and rail/stiles helps not only provide stability to the frame but helps hide gap-osis. And I can visualize *every* gap you won't be able to see (and some you will unfortunately). Aesthetically it is shaping to be my nicest project.May 15, 2007

My first step after cuts...trying out using wood dowels for joinery15 viewsEvery project I have done this year I've implemented a new technique or two to build up skills. This usually means I have a few mistakes as I learn as I go. But I do see progress on the repetitive skills, so that's a good thing I guess. In the photo you can see the holes I drilled. The technique used is wood dowels for joining (butt joinery in this case...I didn't pick the name!!) 2 pieces of wood. I tried it rather than sticking with normal screws. Drill, fill w/glue, dowel expands and dries. Presto!May 15, 2007
