Routed Inlay project

I’ve picked back up a smaller project that was on the shelf for a bit. My unit Executive Officer left for California around Thanksgiving. As per military customs we sent him off with a farewell ceremony and gave him mementos of our appreciation of his hard work.
One of the gifts I made (bed [...]

Phase II of McKinley’s “Porch”

Shelley hit it with a vengence today, as I worked on the plywood holder simultaneously. She started off routing the edge on the cedar shingles. They match the trailer’s look nicely.

She then put in dog-ear cuts into the slats, then mounted them on the roofing. Below is the finished product…looks great!

She did [...]

Jig-a-palooza!

I’ve been wanting to get more skills in making boxes. This is a key technique and set of skills that feed into many projects. I particularly like finger joints, but am scared to death to even consider dovetails. Often considered the mark of a craftsman, dovetails are possible with a router and [...]

My next big ‘fancy’ project

Shelley and I have talked about things to add to our covered porch area. And since we are contemplating a front covered porch as well (see projects list in earlier postings) I’m not concerned about having clutter. Move a picnic table to the front, or other seating and there is plenty o’ space [...]

Warm and toasty feet on the way

Based on last weekend, I just broke down and purchased some new ‘medium’ cold-weather boots. Yep, the winter weather in Washington, plus the numerous trips to LaPine have wore me down.

Phase I of McKinley’s covered “porch”

As mentioned below, Shelley and I finished up the covering for part of McKinley’s run. But I want to add some slats to help provide a little bit of protection of side precipitation seeping in. As you can see from the photo, winds push snow and rain under the covering.
On our next trip [...]

Another great LaPine trip

We are wrapping up another wonderful LaPine excusion. It was beautiful here, as you’d expect. About 6 inches of snow on the ground, and the roof wasn’t too packed.
Shelley and I finished the dog run covered area for McKinley, but it’s a little bit too high to catch all the swirling snow or [...]

Priorities of Work

Shelley, McKinley and I are hibernating for a bit at the LaPine house. Everytime I come here I’m reminded of all the work that still needs to be done. And since we often only come here for 4 solid days projects we take on have to fit into those days.
Because it is winter, [...]
